News

May 22, 2004

Hello everyone. Sorry I've been so quiet lately, but there has been a very good reason for that. I will have some news on that super-advanced rigging tutorial I promised. As soon as I can, I'll post here some info on it. Until then... take care!

P.S. I'll also have some info on the mental ray tutorials.

Woohoo!! Happy new year to all of you out there!! It's been a while. I'm sorry for not being able to update the site as often as I'd like. However, I have some good news for you. There are some new tutorials for you... these are not character related. I have had to stay away from that for a little while. Strange paths have I taken, leading me down to the obscure and technical realm of rendering. But now, you'll be able to reap the rewards of my ventures onto these arcane and secret places (oh, well... enough already). Down at the SHADING section of the site, you'll find some brand new, hot-from-the-oven mental ray tutorials (if they're not there already, they will soon be). The same disclaimer applies... these are not beginner-level tutorials, and do not deal with caustics and GI... there are enough of those out there already. I suggest you read the 3ds max new features guide, users documentation and mental ray user guide before reading these tutorials. I hope you find them useful. As for more character tutorials... yeah, I'll be getting back to that soon. There will DEFINITELY be an advanced rigging tutorial... just be patient. In the meantime, I'll continue to upload more mental ray material, some papers, and some short math tutorials. I hope you continue to find the site useful and informative. Take care!!

Ok. Got some news for ya. The r5 tutorials WILL happen. Just gimme some time to get them done. I've been getting some feedback/suggestions as to some new features some folks would like to see included in rigs, so I'm doing some research right now as to how to achieve it. I must warn you... this tutorial will be much more advanced that the r4 one, so get ready for a wild ride! I'll also try to be more careful on avoiding typos and such. Anyway, I'm on it. Hopefuly, this will be something you'll all like. Cheers!!

Allright. I've had some problems with my FTP access, which seem resolved for the time being. Let me tell you where we are....

Due to some changes in my work, I've had to stay away from rigging for a while. I've become much more involved in the rendering side of things. This doesn't mean I'll just drop the whole thing. There are, however, some reasons that have made me reconsider the r5 tutorials. For one, I'm not using much of some of the new tools found in r5, for several reasons. Second, I've found myself using more Character Studio since R4 came out. It has some cool thing in there that made me make the jump to it for quick work. Of course, there are things you can do with a custom rig that CS can't. Anyway, the thing is I'd like to hear from you people (because this site is here for YOU) what you think. I've been doing some research regarding some twisting solutions in the upper and lower arms for better skinning setups. As soon as I get something clean that doesn't break, I'll definitely post a tutorial on it. However, don't expect a tutorial as complete as the one I wrote for R4 (again, this wouldn't have been possible without the generosity and wisdom of Paul Neale and Michael Comet... hats off to two of the best max TD's I've had the fortune of crossing paths with). Unfortunately, my time has become quite limited, and I've had to break into a field to which I was pretty much a stranger, so there has been a LOT to study. Anyway, I WILL continue to support the site, post stuff, and reply to emails as often as I can (thanks for writing!). If YOU feel a rigging tutorial is definitely needed (believe me... my rigs haven't changed that much since r4), please let me know, and I'll do my best to accomodate the needs of the majority.

Please don't feel disappointed. I will continue to work on stuff for the site as my time allows. The fruits of my new field of study will blossom sometime, and of course, I will be glad to share it with you when the time is right. Even though I can find it hard to work on full-fledged tutorials, I'll continue to post my scripts (as I get them to work!) and papers as often as I can. Please, let me stress that I want you to contact me of you think the site's direction should be different (or, better said, retained). I would definitely reconsider and try hard to make some time to support the needs of those who speak out loud.

This site is something that I'm really happy of having. However, this would be completely meaningless without the support and feedback I get from you. I hope this site continues to be a source of knowledge and interest for max users for quite some time. Of course, I'm completely aware of the fact that new content has to be posted in order for people to keep interest in visiting it, or it'd just be one more dead webpage around with old tuts floating around the web. I'll try my best to do my part. As for you... well, just drop me those emails and requests, and keep visiting once in a while to see what's changed.

Thank you for your support and attention. Wish you the best. Cheers!!

Sergio Muciño.

OMG!!! The server hosting the site has been hit by a SQL worm! The site is down, and my email is off... I'll have to wait and see if the data can be recovered (I'm specially worried about my email!! The site is backed up in my HD). Once we resolve this issue, the site might still be down for a couple of days. There's not much I can do here folks, but wait. I was just in the process of updating the site. You'll notice a new tutorial in the math section, and my scripts have been uploaded to the scripts section. I hope this doesn't cause more problems than needed (as if I hadn't already taken long enough to update the site... sheesshh...). I'll keep you posted...

Howdy everyone!! I hope y'all still there... anyway, I'm back home again, so development of the site will resume promptly. I'll try to work as fast as I can. Just bear in mind that I've still got a job (well... at least that's what they tell me), so bear with me. I'll continue to upload stuff, and a redesign of the site is in the to-do list. I was thinking of reopening the forum, but there are plenty of forums out there with rigging info, and Michael's forums does a great job, so I might concentrate on content instead. The next uploads will be some scripts, maybe a paper or two, and lastly the tutorials (these are lenghty folks!). Oh! And expect your first math tutorial! (Yes... hate me hate me...). Anyway, these are the plans. The shading section will still remain closed, although I'm working on material for it. I'll let you know when we're close to opening it. Anyway, the idea is we're back and ready to work! Again, an apology to you guys for keeping you waiting. So, let's get to it! Cheers!!!

Hey folks. I'm terribly sorry for keeping you all waiting there. I was hired to do offsite work, so I haven't had time to work on new tuts and update the site. I'll be back soon, and I'm really determined to get this site up and running ASAP. Please be a little patient there. I promise I'll deliver... may you all have a merry christmas, and a super great new year!!! CHEERS!!!

Ok!! Here we are folks.... back online at last!! As you can see, there's still a lot to do (and I do mean a lot, since the site is still empty.... :( ... but anyway....), but I'll do my best (as work allows) to continue to upload as much as I can, as fast as I can, ok? So, please... bear with me... However, the R3 and R4 tuts are available from the "character" section of the site... you can go and get them... I'll start digging up my scripts to test them and I'll upload them ASAP. Stay tuned! Cheers!
